What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. It is played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net.

The paddles are smaller than tennis rackets and are made of wood or composite materials. The ball is similar to a wiffle ball, but it has holes in it.

The basic rules of pickleball are as follows:

  • The game is played between two players (singles) or four players (doubles).

  • The players serve from the right side of the court and must hit the ball so that it bounces once in their opponent's court and then once in their own court.

  • The ball can be volleyed (hit in the air) or groundstroked (hit after it bounces).

  • A point is scored when the opponent fails to return the ball within the boundaries of the court.

  • The first player or team to reach 11 points (with a two-point lead) wins the game.

Here are some additional rules that you should know:

  • The ball must bounce before it can be volleyed in the non-volley zone (NVZ), which is the area 7 feet from the net.

  • Players cannot step on the NVZ while volleying the ball.

  • A let serve is called when the ball hits the net and then goes over the net onto the opponent's side of the court.

  • A fault is called when the ball hits the ground outside of the court, goes into the net, or is volleyed in the NVZ.

Pickleball is a relatively easy game to learn, but it can be challenging to master. With a little practice, you'll be hitting winners in no time!

Here are some tips for beginners:

  • Start by practicing your serves. A good serve is essential in pickleball.

  • Learn the rules of the game. This will help you avoid making mistakes.

  • Be patient. It takes time to learn how to play pickleball well.

  • Have fun! Pickleball is a great way to get exercise and socialize with friends.
